Part 1 of "Body language screams…Maturity reveals all."

Body language screams.

You introduce yourself to the people in the room long before you open your mouth to speak.

Scream; to give a long, loud, piercing cry expressing excitement, great emotion, or pain.

Your body language screams.

You can scream excitement, or you can scream misery.

You can scream confidence, or you can scream insecurity.

You can scream gratitude, or you can scream lack of appreciation.

You can scream respect, or you can scream the need for attention.

You can scream I WANT TO BE HERE, or you can scream WHY AM I HERE.

What do you do when you first walk into a room? When you first walk into the gym?

What does your energy and demeanor give off? Remember, body language SCREAMS. More often than not, I have found that so many players, coaches, and individuals aren’t intentionally trying to carry themselves with a poor posture and presence. Instead, the majority remain unaware of the power in how they show up. This leads to a lot of individuals that show up with body language that screams all of the wrong answers.

So, one more time, HOW do you show up when you first enter a room?

CHIN UP – CHEST OUT.

The moment you open the door and walk in, do so with your chin held high and your chest out strong. You can project your confidence to those around you. Stand tall, in moments of victory anyone can stand tall. It is in the moments of struggle and defeat that most fail to stand tall. Don’t be the person who only stands tall when things go your way. Be the person that carries enough confidence and strength within them to stand tall no matter the outcome, no matter the circumstance.

EYE CONTACT.

As you approach anyone, look them dead in the eyes. By looking someone in the eyes you scream confidence, confidence in who you are and what you are about. On the reverse, the moment you tilt your head down and look to the ground you will show your lack of security within yourself. Look people in the eyes and you will see the power of your presence.

NONVERBAL COMMUNICATION.

Acknowledge what other people say and do. Your coach speaks to you, at the bare minimum nod your head and let them know you heard them. Your teammate forces a bad pass and leads to a turnover, do you throw your hands up in frustration or do you give them a couple of claps and let them know that you still have their back?

Just remember that the next time you walk through a door into any room. Your presence will introduce you to the room before you say a single word.

BODY LANGUAGE SCREAMS.
